griff: lucas, thank you. jacqui: president biden is touting a relatively strong jobs report. 457,000 jobs last month. not everyone is feeling the effects as inflation is continuing to run rampant. >> the white house and the biden administration officials were actually expecting a poor report here so this has come as a pleasant surprise even at the white house. the thought is that the survey would reflect mid january's omicron spike when workers were out sick. that's not the case. 467,000 jobs added, 259,000 were in the leisure, hospitality, bar and restaurant sectors, no americans are out and about once again. here is the president. >> america's job machine is going stronger than ever. a strong recovery and opportunity for hard working women and men across this great country. america is back to work. >> while wages climbed 5.7% in

january they were made null by raising inflation, a burden that the president vowed to get control of. but first america's chaotic departure from afghanistan. the military released details on the attack ott kabul's airport. 13 service members were killed there 170 civilians injured. initially they thought that gunfire was exchanged in addition to an isis-k suicide bomb. >> we know it was one bomber with the use of ball bearingings in there, incredible carnage as a result of this. the bravery, the compassion, the skill that our troops showed in the moment, in a moment when they were losing their comrades and trying to rescue those wounded. >> president biden pledged retaliation for that attack and military officials say they plan to live by the president's words.

jacqui. jacqui: griff. griff: now back to our top story, as fears grow of a possible invasion of ukraine, a member of the house financial services committee, ted bud. thank you for taking time. you may have heard lucas tomlinson's report from kiev, a lot of tension on the ukrainian border. what are your thoughts this morning. >> this never would have occurred under a strong president like president trump. this has gone back to american weakness put on full display by president biden. the report before this which was afghanistan and it really put our-- those that would be against us whether it's china, iran, north carolina, russia, it puts them on notice that america will not step up and that's not who america is. the world needs to know that we're strong not just good for america, but it's good for the re of the world so we need to be strong again and certainly
9:06 am
not going to happen under president biden. griff: congressman, you wrote a letter to secretary of state blinken in recent days. what is it that you're asking of the secretary? >> we need to make sure that we're arming our allies in ukraine, but i'm very concerned about sending troops over there. they're not asking for that. ukraine is asking for material support and certainly something that we need to continue doing. griff: and just as a sort of an assessment of the administration's plan, do we need to be sort of united here in our approach before we cast apersians and what do you think of the plan. >> you're seeing a chaotic plan and mixed messages from the administration, talking terms like minor incursion. there is no minor incursion from one sovereign nation to another. you're seeing things like, first of all, you see under

obama you see ukraine lose crimea and now you see under biden, you're seeing the threat on eastern ukraine. so, again, we need to go back to an america strong where these problems never began, griff, in the first place. so it's really about what biden is doing with regards to weakness, we need to be strong on sanctions and look, you've seen him botch afghanistan. do you really want him in charge? do you want president biden in charge of something infinitely more complex than that? i mean, these challenges go back to probably 354ad between the east and west. this is an ancient issue and i don't think that biden is up to the task to solve it, but we need to make sure to supply our allies. griff: we shall see. we'll turn to the economy at home. jobs reports, 467,000 net new jobs and president biden had this to say at the white house.

four years straight. and joe biden has one report and media gathered on around him and cheers him on for a week. this is one good week out of 54 weeks in office. griff: and the wages increase 5.7%, but inflation hit 7%. >> inflation is outrunning and people is coming up to me how much easier it is to carry $100 worth of groceries. that's not good news. the wage increase they're getting is not outpacing joe biden's inflation. griff: congressman ted budd, have a great saturday. jacqui: for reactions on the other side of the aisle we're joined by congresswoman from michigan, debbie dingell. >> it's good to be with you. jacqui: i want to turn to the economy, the jobs report is positive, but as most people judge the state of the economy, they judge it by how it's treating their wallets and as griff was mentioning, although
9:10 am
wages are up, a lot of that is being eroded by inflation. so, i'm curious, you know, we just hit a seven-year high on gas prices and do you feel that your voters or constituents feel like things are improving? >> so, look, let's be honest. covid has run over us for two years. during the trump administration and the biden administration, we're all tired of it. we're all grumpy. it impacts everything that we do. it's cost this pall. and we have gone through another surge and we're going to have to figure out going forward, we could get another different variation of this virus, how do we go back to a -- what's our new normal. that's going to be one of the biggest challenges that we face. as omicron lifts, we are beginning to see people have a more positive dealing and the last couple of months things have happened, we have people whose shelves weren't filled
9:11 am
and prices were going up for a variety of reasons and including the fact that so many people were getting omicron and were out of the work force. so, january snapshot, we see things going in the right direction, but inflation is real. anyone who tries to say inflation isn't real-- when i got elected posting milk, eggs, diet coke and i've gone back to doing that, some are going up, some are going down and we ever to go the right direction. do it working together and focus how we're deal with covid. we're sick of it, it's not done with us, whether we're sick of it or not and how do we get to the new normal and how do we keep the economy going in a positive direction. jacqui: it seems that democrats especially are pivoting away from support for lockdowns or keeping kids out of school and keeping the economy running, keeping kids in school a big priority and that could contribute to it, but with gas,
9:12 am
specifically, that's an issue, you know, is a complex one. are you satisfied with the answers that we've heard from the biden administration what they're doing about it. the president called on opec to ramp up production, but gotten nowhere. he's released barrels from the strategic petroleum reserve and didn't make a lasting dent in gas prices. should the biden administration do something new here? >> they need to look at the price. in my hometown, i have a gas station i'm taking a pictures of every week, too, and gas prices have gone down a little in the last week by, you know, a few cents. but it's the right direction. look, we all-- inflation is real and it's hurting every pocket book. i'm feeling it more ways than i want to feel it, but i think na things are going in the right direction and by the way, if they continue to move in the right direction, logistics issues impacting the supply, the world we live in is the law of supply and demand.
9:13 am
supply continues, hopefully will go in the right direction and we need to look at the gas of gasoline and what people are paying. wages are up, costs are up. we have to work together. i am a note taking shots at anybody, i want to work with everybody to get costs down. jacqui: i want to turn to ukraine because it appears more likely than not at this point that putin is is going to do something. what can you share from the latest briefings that's happened on the hill and where do things stand with the sanctions package. there has been talk in congress getting something like that done. the senate has been taking the lead and working on that. we've had an excellent briefing. ranking member-- and i do not want to go to war. i'm very disturbed by all of the reports that we are hearing, what ever we do must

9:15 am
discuss publicly in terms of some of that, things that are happening, but we must-- n.a.t.o. was founded for the security of countries like this and we all have to stay together and i am praying that economic sanctions or things will be strong enough because none of us wants another war, but we need the world to know that we are america and we will do what's right. jacqui: is there, real quick, is there had a concern among your colleagues that putin might not stop at ukraine, might push further to other countries? i mean, we're all-- we're watching the world alliances. i'm as worried right now and i'll be blunt about it, what's china going to do to taiwan, where we have a, you know too much dependence on semiconductor chips and too many other things. we have need to be paying attention to the global world order and what our role is and work with other countries to make sure we are protecting
